Political Anthropomorphism

Political Anthropomorphism

Anthropomorphism is similar to personification, in that it is a way of adding human features or properties to something without those features or properties. For example, adding a human face to an animal or adding human characteristics to an animal in a drawing. Examples of this would be things like Peter Rabbit or any animal character that’s similar. In political illustrations this is slightly different, it is almost reversed in some ways. It is often used by adding the specific image or characteristics of a political figure to an animal that could be seen to embody these features to begin with.

Steve Bell does this to imagine Jeremy Corbyn as a fox, and David Cameron as a Pig in this illustration:

I have imagined Kim Jon Il as a Seal in this image. This is due to his physical characteristics, and also because he plays with the North Koreans in the way a Seal can be trained to play with a ball.

I also sketched out his son, Kim Jon Un, as a pig.
