Chris Ware uses a technique known as a raccord in his piece
of art “big Tex” – Shown below. In this style, he makes use of the panels in
both time and space. What I mean by that is the panels are like looking through
a window to a still place. Although each panel is looking through this window
in a different time. Through this technique he explores how a place can have
significance through many years.
I have used this technique on my own work here:
I used this technique to try to create a comic strip about
the effects of a meteor on a cityscape. I enjoyed creating the work this way,
as it allowed me to draw out various elements of the city in different ways. I
tried to emulate his work in this form, and if I were to try again, I think I
would include more narrative elements to it, so it was a bit more engaging for
the viewer.
