Editorial illustration Eric Fraser

Editorial illustration Eric Fraser

Eric Fraser draws in a specific style, he uses predominantly black and white in his drawings. With lots of dark spaces to emphasise shadows and light. He uses a lot of weird imagery in these drawings to imply the occult or surreal. He likes to use profiles of people in his drawings to emphasise the shadows it makes on their faces.

Here is an example of his work.

I really like the face with just the one eye on it, to really showcase the directional lighting of the image.

I produced a piece of work in response to this, and tried to show off a few of his techniques, for example the faces with shadow across most of them, and the slightly surreal imagery going across the page. I produced the drawing by hand, but it wasn’t as dark as I wanted, so half way through I scanned it in and drew the other half in Photoshop. I felt this made the piece the right shade of black, and allowed me to fix small mistakes I had made.
